Thaidene Nëné Fund

We created the Thaidene Nëné Fund to ensure long-term funding for the Land of the Ancestors.

The Łutsël K’é Dene First Nation established a trust to fund its management and operation responsibilities in Thaidene Nëné, but also to support community stewardship and economic diversification.

Together with our partner, Nature United, Łutsël K’é raised $15 million, which was matched by the federal government for a total of $30 million.

The $30 million is protected in a trust fund. Only the annual interest and investment income will be used for Łutsël K’é´s management and operational responsibilities in Thaidene Nëné. Trust fund revenue can also be used for training and capacity building, promoting the Dene way of life, and business development.

In order to fulfill baseline budget requirements, if the annual trust fund income cannot fully fund Łutsël K’é Dene baseline management and operations budget, Parks Canada will provide supplemental funding.
